PLANT CITY, FL — Peak speeds of 130 mph is what Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a 23-year-old Lakeland woman and a 19-year-old New Port Richey man reached while allegedly racing two Kia K5 sedans on I-4 early Sunday morning. Troopers stopped and arrested both drivers near County Line Road as they entered Polk County.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning, Sept. 20, at approximately 3:00a., while FHP troopers were conducting an aggressive driving enforcement detail on eastbound I-4 in Hillsborough County.
According to FHP and arrest affidavits, troopers first observed two Kia K5 sedans traveling together at more than 100 mph near Mile Marker 19. A trooper conducting speed enforcement near Mile Marker 20 reported clocking the vehicles at approximately 110 mph in a 70-mph zone.
The trooper said the drivers continued making multiple lane changes at high speeds. Near Mile Marker 23, both Kias allegedly exceeded 130 mph.
Troopers coordinated traffic stops as the vehicles approached County Line Road as they entered into Polk County. The drivers were identified as Eva May Wrona, 23, of Lakeland, and Xavier Jordan Good, 19, of New Port Richey. Both were arrested and charged with unlawful racing on a highway.
According to the affidavits, both Kias were impounded with 30-day holds. Wrona and Good were transported to the Hillsborough County Jail on Orient Road. Nothing further at this time.
