Teen Arrested in Volusia County for Attempted Poisoning of Grandmother
Volusia County, FL — A 17 year old boy was arrested over the weekend in Volusia County, accused of attempting to poison his 77 year old grandmother by putting bleach in her milk, authorities said.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the home after the grandmother reported a strange taste in her daily glass of milk. She told deputies she only consumed a small amount because she could taste the bleach, later identified as Clorox.
“Do you recall what happened this morning with milk?” a deputy asked in body camera footage released by the sheriff’s office.
“He put Clorox in the milk … I drink milk every day,” the grandmother responded. “I had some, just a little because I could taste it.”
Deputies found the teen hiding inside a room in the home with the family dog. Video footage shows him being escorted out in handcuffs as the dog barked in the background. “He was hiding in the room with the dog,” a deputy noted.
The teen now faces serious charges, including attempted murder. Authorities have not released a motive for the alleged crime, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The grandmother was not seriously harmed and is cooperating with investigators. The suspect’s identity has not been released due to his age.This is a developing story. Nothing further at this time.
