LAKELAND, FL — Lakeland residents and businesses violating Phase 3 Water Shortage Restrictions could face fines ranging from $50 to $500 after the City Commission unanimously approved new drought enforcement measures on Sept. 8.
The amended ordinance establishes fines of $50 for a first violation, $200 for a second and $500 for third and subsequent violations. Enforcement is effective immediately and may be carried out by Water Utilities staff, Lakeland Police or City Code Enforcement.
Violators will receive a notice by mail and have 30 days to submit a written appeal. Unless waived, fines will appear on the customer’s Lakeland Electric bill.
Most properties are currently limited to watering one day per week. The restrictions apply regardless of water source, including city water, private wells and surface water. Phase 3 restrictions are currently scheduled to remain in effect through Oct. 1.
