HAINES CITY, FL — A Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputy was hospitalized following a head-on crash early Friday morning between Haines City and Poinciana, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The head-on collision occurred at approximately 5:53 a.m. in the area of Cypress Parkway/Johnson Avenue and Miss Mary Ann Road. The deputy was transported to the hospital and is currently stable and alert. He suffered injuries to his hip and leg, along with a laceration to his arm, according to PCSO.
The driver of the other vehicle was also transported to a hospital. The Sheriff’s Office said an update on that driver’s condition was not immediately available. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the head-on collision.
Cypress Parkway/Johnson Avenue was completely shut down in the area while investigators worked the scene, significantly impacting traffic between Haines City and Poinciana. The Sheriff’s Office said additional information will be released as it becomes available. Nothing further at this time.
