Polk City Man Crashes Truck Hauling Tesla Batteries After Tire Failure

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — It was a scary beginning to a Tuesday morning for a Polk City man after the tractor-trailer he was driving, which was hauling Tesla vehicle batteries, suffered a tire failure and crashed along I-275.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 58-year-old man was traveling southbound near mile marker 24 around 10:30 a.m. September 1 when the tire failure caused him to lose control. The tractor-trailer entered the shoulder before striking a guardrail and light pole.

The crash caused significant traffic delays Tuesday morning, and the roadway was shut down for an extended period while authorities investigated and worked to clear the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Nothing further at this time.
