OVIEDO, FL — Tragic news out of Orange County this morning, where a 45-year-old Haines City man was killed in a motorcycle crash early Sunday that also left another rider injured.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 1:41a , near Innovation Way and State Road 434, also known as South Alafaya Trail in Oviedo. The Haines City man was riding a 2015 Yamaha FZ-09 northbound on Innovation Way alongside a 34-year-old Orlando man riding a 2022 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14.
Troopers said both motorcycles were traveling above the posted speed limit as they approached a curve south of State Road 434. Both riders failed to negotiate the curve, ran off the roadway and struck a curb.
The impact threw both men from their motorcycles. The 45-year-old Haines City rider struck a fence and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 34-year-old Orlando rider suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to AdventHealth East Orlando for treatment.
FHP reported that both riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Nothing further at this time.
