WINTER HAVEN, FL – A contracted nurse who worked inside the Polk County Sheriff’s Office South County Jail was arrested Thursday on a cocaine possession charge following a traffic stop in Winter Haven.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, 50-year-old David Lindsay Pohl of Winter Haven, an employee of CFG Health Systems, was stopped by Winter Haven Police officers on June 25 after his vehicle was observed with illegal window tint and failing to stop at two stop signs.
During the traffic stop, officers reported seeing Pohl wiping a white substance from his pants while also observing a white rock-like substance on the driver’s seat. The substance later tested positive for cocaine.
Pohl was arrested and charged with one count of possession of cocaine, a third-degree felony, and was also issued a citation for illegal window tint.
While Pohl was being booked into the Polk County Jail, booking staff discovered he was employed by CFG Health Systems, the contracted medical provider for the Sheriff’s Office, and assigned to the South County Jail. Jail staff immediately notified CFG Health and PCSO supervisors.
“He was familiar with our jail as a contracted nurse. Today, he’s seeing it from the other side of the bars. We expect everyone who works with our agency to obey the law. Clearly this suspect is no longer trusted to work within our detention facilities, especially having access to prescription medications,” Sheriff Grady Judd said. The Sheriff’s Office said Pohl is no longer trusted to work within its detention facilities. Nothing further at this time.
