WINTER HAVEN, FL — The City of Winter Haven recognized its Public Works Department during the May 11 City Commission meeting with a proclamation signed by Mayor Brian Yates in observance of National Public Works Week, which was celebrated May 17-23, 2026.
City officials highlighted the critical role Public Works employees play in maintaining essential services throughout the community. The department oversees a wide range of operations, including streets and traffic management, stormwater systems, fleet maintenance, and solid waste collection.
“From streets and traffic to stormwater to fleet maintenance, and solid waste, these teams work behind the scenes often very early in the morning, late at night, and during emergencies to provide essential services to our community,” said Public Works Director Brittany Hart.
Over the past year, the department collected approximately 38,000 tons of garbage and removed 11 tons of litter from city areas. Public Works also provided solid waste services to more than 21,000 residential customers and 1,700 commercial customers.
According to the city, those services resulted in approximately 3.5 million customer interactions annually, reflecting the department’s extensive impact on daily life in Winter Haven.
City leaders thanked Public Works employees for their dedication to keeping Winter Haven clean, safe, and well-maintained throughout the year.
