Denis Phillips Among Featured Speakers at Lakeland Hurricane Expo

LAKELAND, FL – The City of Lakeland is inviting residents to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season by attending the 2026 Lakeland Hurricane Expo on Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the RP Funding Center, located at 701 W. Lime Street in Lakeland.

The free community event will feature more than 50 vendors, emergency preparedness resources, expert presentations, and opportunities for residents to connect with public safety officials, emergency management teams, and local organizations. Activities for children will also be available.

Mayor Sara Roberts McCarley will open the event with remarks before several presentations and panel discussions focused on storm preparedness, recovery planning, and community safety.

Featured speakers include ABC Action News meteorologist Denis Phillips, Spectrum Bay News 9 meteorologist Kyle Hanson, and environmental scientist Dr. Tracy Fanara. A hurricane preparedness panel moderated by Trinity Laurino of LkldNow will also include experts from City of Lakeland Emergency Management, Polk County Emergency Management, elder care preparedness professionals, and medical preparedness specialists.

Free hurricane kits and raffle giveaways will be available while supplies last. Complimentary parking will be available at the RP Funding Center during the event.
