Kissimmee Property Owners to Receive 25% Flood Insurance Discount

KISSIMMEE, FL — The City of Kissimmee has earned a higher rating in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS), allowing eligible property owners to receive a 25% discount on most NFIP flood insurance policies issued or renewed on or after October 1, 2026.

The City announced it has improved its CRS classification from Class 7 to Class 5 following a comprehensive five-year verification conducted by Insurance Services Office (ISO), FEMA’s CRS contractor. During the 2025 review, Kissimmee earned 2,659 CRS credit points, surpassing the requirements needed for a Class 5 rating.

The new classification increases the flood insurance discount for eligible NFIP policyholders from 15% to 25%.

“Flooding can affect properties throughout our community, not just those in high-risk flood zones,” said City of Kissimmee Floodplain Manager Nagel Altrui. “Our voluntary participation in the National Flood Insurance Program and continued investment in floodplain management help reduce flood risk, improve community preparedness, and provide eligible property owners with significant savings on flood insurance.”

The improved rating reflects the City’s ongoing efforts to strengthen flood protection and preparedness. Those efforts include maintaining accurate floodplain development records, updating floodplain and zoning ordinances, monitoring flood management plans, conducting public education campaigns, and participating in emergency response exercises following flooding events.

The Community Rating System rewards communities that exceed the minimum floodplain management standards required by the NFIP. Communities can earn flood insurance discounts ranging from 5% to 45%, depending on their CRS classification.

City officials say they will continue investing in floodplain management practices aimed at reducing flood risk, protecting property, and improving community resilience.

Eligible NFIP policyholders will begin receiving the 25% flood insurance premium discount on most policies issued or renewed starting October 1, 2026.
