Man Killed in Davenport Crash on Deen Still Road

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a traffic crash fatality that occurred at 5:45 a.m. this morning, Saturday, January 31, 2026 on Deen Still Road at Wheeler Road in Davenport.

The crash involved a Freightliner semi-truck pulling a trailer being driven by a 21-year-old Georgia man, and a 2018 Nissan Sentra being driven by a 61-year-old Zephyrhills man.

The semi-truck had just pulled out of the sand mine entrance at Wheeler Road and was stretched across Deen Still and attempting to turn westbound when the Nissan, which was heading eastbound on Deen Still, struck and then went completely under the trailer, crushing the entire top half of the car and killing the driver. There were no other occupants in the car.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours and the investigation is ongoing.
