On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, a fatal crash occurred on State Road 40 east of Deerfly Road in Ocklawaha, Florida.
According to authorities, a 2002 Cadillac Escalade, driven by a 71-year-old male from Ocklawaha, was traveling westbound when it crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane. The Escalade collided head-on with a 2025 Freightliner semi tractor-trailer, driven by a 49-year-old male from Denver, Colorado. The Escalade driver was pronounced deceased at the scene, and next of kin were notified. The tractor-trailer driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained no injuries and remained at the scene. A 25-year-old male passenger from Los Angeles, California, in the tractor-trailer was transported to Advent Health DeLand with minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
