CENTRAL FLORIDA – Truck drivers traveling through Central Florida will soon have access to 917 new parking spaces as officials launch five truck parking expansion projects along the Interstate 4 corridor, one of Florida’s busiest freight routes.
Officials with the Federal Highway Administration, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and the Florida Department of Transportation gathered in Sanford to mark the start of the initiative, which is funded through a $180 million federal INFRA grant.
The project will add 917 truck parking spaces along I-4, a critical freight corridor that carries approximately 95% of Florida’s consumer goods. Transportation officials said the expansion is aimed at addressing a longstanding shortage of truck parking, which often forces drivers to spend significant time searching for safe places to rest.
Construction on the first three sites, located in Seminole and Volusia counties, is expected to begin this summer and be completed by mid-2027. Two additional sites in Orange and Osceola counties are scheduled to begin construction in 2027.
Officials said the new parking facilities will improve safety, reduce roadside parking, ease congestion, and help strengthen Florida’s supply chain by providing truck drivers with more dedicated rest areas along one of the state’s busiest transportation corridors.
