On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Marion County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detective Jason Williams arrested 17-year-old Caden Speight (DOB: 04/28/2008) for Presenting False Evidence, Shooting into a Conveyance, Making a False Report of a Crime, and Possession of a Firearm by a Minor.
On September 25, 2025, at approximately 4:10 p.m., MCSO deputies responded to the 12800 block of SW Highway 484 in Dunnellon after Speight texted his family claiming he had been shot, with Life360 indicating this as his last known location. Deputies located Speight’s truck but could not find him. MCSO and other law enforcement agencies deployed resources to search for Speight and process the scene. Crime Scene Technicians found a bullet hole in the truck’s windshield, suspected blood, Speight’s damaged cellphone, drag marks, and bicycle tracks leading away from the vehicle.
Investigation revealed Speight fired the shot through the windshield, splattered a blood mixture in the truck, and destroyed his cellphone. He fled on a bicycle with camping supplies purchased from Walmart prior to the incident. An eyewitness reported seeing Speight leave the area on a bicycle.
Detectives discovered Speight had previously mentioned running away and found ChatGPT searches on his laptop about collecting blood without pain and Mexican cartels. On September 26, 2025, Williston Police Department officers located Speight at 727 W Noble Avenue in Williston, in possession of a handgun and the bicycle. Speight had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his leg, shattering his femur, and required medical treatment.
Following the investigation, a warrant was issued for Speight’s arrest. He was arrested and transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice. Nothing further at this time.
