The Florida Department of Health in Polk County has lifted the health alert issued for Thomas Lake, initially issued on September 10, 2025, due to harmful blue-green algae toxins.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection conducted follow-up water sampling, which detected no algae toxins. The public may now resume water-related activities at the lake. DOH-Polk advises residents and visitors to avoid contact with water if algae blooms are visible, as bloom status can change under favorable conditions.
