29-Year-Old Frostproof Man Fatally Struck on U.S. 27

FROSTPROOF, FL – A 29-year-old Frostproof man died after being struck by a vehicle early Sunday morning, July 5, 2026, on U.S. 27 near George Street in Frostproof.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. when a gray 2008 Toyota Prius was traveling northbound in the left lane on U.S. 27, approaching George Street, the entrance to the Sun Ray community. Investigators with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit said the Frostproof man stepped onto the highway for unknown reasons and stopped in the roadway. The driver of the Prius was unable to avoid striking him, and the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Neither the driver nor the passengers in the Prius were injured. No other vehicles or people were involved in the incident. Family members of the victim responded to the scene but were unable to explain why he may have walked into the roadway. The investigation remains ongoing.
