$22.1 Million Buenaventura Boulevard Safety Project to Begin

Osceola County will begin construction this month on the Buenaventura Boulevard Safety Improvements and Complete Streets projects, major corridor upgrades aimed at improving safety, traffic flow, and multimodal connectivity.

The project includes two coordinated efforts along Buenaventura Boulevard. The BVL Safety Improvements project will upgrade approximately 1.4 miles from Florida Parkway to Osceola Parkway.

Based on a 2020 Florida Department of Transportation study, improvements include signal upgrades, a raised median, enhanced pedestrian and bicycle access, improved signage and lighting, and drainage and utility upgrades.

The BVL Complete Streets project represents the second phase, covering approximately 2.4 miles from Simpson Road to Osceola Parkway. This phase is designed to reduce vehicle speeds and improve connectivity, with features including two roundabouts at both intersections of BVL at Trotters Circle, a 12-foot shared-use path, and additional pedestrian safety enhancements such as crosswalks and flashing beacons.

Together, these improvements will create a safer, more efficient corridor for motorists while expanding access for pedestrians and cyclists.

Construction will occur in phases over approximately two years, primarily during daytime hours. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures, temporary traffic shifts, and periodic access adjustments. Drivers are encouraged to use caution in the work zone and allow extra travel time.

“We heard the community’s need for a safer, more accessible Buenaventura Boulevard, and this project delivers on that promise,” said Osceola County District 2 Commissioner Viviana Janer.“It’s about making everyday travel easier, safer, and more connected for the families and businesses who rely on this corridor.”

The $22.1 million project combines local transportation funding with state and federal grants, helping reduce reliance on local tax dollars.

Osceola County will provide ongoing updates throughout construction, including traffic advisories and project milestones.
