Tampa, FL. — Walmart has launched its cutting-edge drone delivery service in Tampa, Florida, as part of a nationwide expansion that positions the retailer as the leader in drone-based retail logistics with operations at 100 stores across five states.
In partnership with drone operators Wing and Zipline, the service is now available at select Tampa locations, including the Walmart Supercenter at 19910 Bruce B. Downs Blvd., enabling customers within a 10-mile radius to receive thousands of eligible items in as little as 10 to 30 minutes.

The drone delivery service has quickly gained traction in Tampa, where convenience-driven shoppers are embracing the technology for its speed and reliability. Initially launched with DroneUp at five Tampa Bay-area stores, Walmart has since shifted to Wing and Zipline to enhance scalability and reduce costs, following the termination of DroneUp operations in Tampa in 2024 due to unsustainable expenses.
The service, which carries packages up to 10 pounds and lowers them to customers’ yards via a cable system, incurs a delivery fee, though Walmart+ members in select areas enjoy free deliveries. With over 150,000 drone deliveries completed nationwide, Tampa residents are using the service for quick fixes like forgotten meal ingredients or urgent needs, such as over the counter medications.
Walmart’s commitment to sustainability is evident, as drones reduce last-mile vehicle emissions, while the retailer continues to refine its drone ecosystem to serve more households and compete with e-commerce rivals like Amazon.

Since its debut in Tampa in December 2022, the program has completed thousands of deliveries, offering residents a fast, eco-friendly option for everything from groceries to last-minute household essentials. Customers can order directly through Walmart’s mobile app, with popular items including snacks, fresh produce, and pet supplies, all delivered by drones operating under strict FAA Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) guidelines.
