Tropical Storm Chantal Forms Off Carolinas, No Direct Impacts to Florida

On Saturday, July 5, 2025, the National Hurricane Center confirms Tropical Storm Chantal has formed from a depression off the Carolinas. Located at 30.8°N, 78.6°W, it moves north-northeast at 2 mph with 35 mph sustained winds and a 1010 mb pressure, per 5:00 AM data. A tropical storm warning is in effect for portions of the Carolinas.

Chantal is the third named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, which began June 1st. Meteorologists note warm ocean temperatures aided development, though Saharan dust may limit intensification. The storm is not expected to impact Florida based on current forecasts.
