Tampa Police Report 52.8% Drop in Homicides in 2025, Far Exceeding National Average

TAMPA, FL (February 25, 2026) — The Tampa Police Department today released its Annual Report for 2025, highlighting substantial reductions in crime that exceeded national averages, advancements in technology to enhance service quality, and expanded community outreach efforts. The report underscores the department’s commitment to cooperative partnerships with the community.

“The strength of our police department is grounded in our partnership with the community we serve. When officers and residents work together, Tampa becomes safer, stronger, and more united,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “Through collaboration, we meet challenges with resilience and build lasting legacies through trust, service, and shared success.”

Key crime statistics from 2025 include:

  • A 52.8% decrease in homicides, surpassing the national average decrease by nearly three times.
  • A 21.3% decrease in total crime, encompassing property crimes and non-violent crimes.

The report also features a “From the Front Lines” section that details officers’ proactive investigations, quality-of-life initiatives, and other daily efforts contributing to crime reduction.

Among new community outreach initiatives, the department introduced Community Pop-ups, where officers visit local apartment complexes and schools to welcome students with cheer tunnels and provide interactive activities.
