TAMPA, FL. (August 4, 2025) – – On August 3, 2025, just after 10:00 PM, Tampa Police arrested two drivers who were racing westbound on the Selmon Expressway, with no regard for the safety of themselves or other drivers.
At around 10:06 p.m., as a Tampa Police Officer was entering the expressway from Willow St., two vehicles, a 2021 Honda Accord and a 2019 Dodge Challenger, passed the officer’s vehicle at speeds exceeding 100 MPH, in a 55 MPH zone.

As the officer followed, both drivers continued to engage in reckless speeding and cut through vehicles without regard for others on the roadway.
The officer was able to safely initiate a traffic stop on both vehicles, which led to the prompt arrest of 19-year-old Angel Cortez Hurrea (W/M, 8/18/2005), who was driving the Honda Accord, and 21-year-old Devin Harrison (B/M, 9/16/2003), who was driving the Dodge Challenger.

“Let this be a warning to those who have a blatant disregard for the safety of others by speeding on roadways. You will be held accountable and your vehicle will be impounded,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “No matter the time of night, everyone in Tampa has the right to feel safe on our roads. I’m incredibly proud of the officers whose actions helped ensure that safety.”
At the time of the arrest, it is believed that both suspects were intentionally recording the race to upload the video on social media.
Both vehicles were impounded, and each driver was charged with One Misdemeanor Count of Unlawful Racing on a Highway and One Misdemeanor Count of Dangerous Excessive Speeding.
