Suspect Arrested After Self-Defense Stabbing in Home Invasion

Pinellas Park, FL – August 13, 2025 – On August 12, 2025, Pinellas Park Police responded to a home invasion robbery at 7902 72nd Way N. Officers found Stephen Houpt, born October 11, 1967, with multiple stab wounds in the living room.

Two victims, McKenzie Bray and James Allen, were also at the scene with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers provided first aid to Houpt until medical personnel arrived. Houpt was transported to a local hospital where he is being treated.

Investigation revealed Houpt, a handyman known to the victims from recent home repairs, forced entry into the residence. Bray was home alone and opened the door, expecting a mail delivery.

Houpt struck Bray in the head and tied her up. When Allen arrived, Houpt attacked him, inflicting multiple cuts. Allen used a weapon from the home to stab Houpt multiple times in self-defense.

Bray and Allen were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Houpt faces charges of home invasion robbery, two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and false imprisonment. Upon release from the hospital, Houpt will be transported to Pinellas County Jail.
