St. Petersburg #1 in Florida, #14 Nationwide for Top-Ranked Park System in 2025 ParkScore Index

St. Pete Ranks No. 1 in Florida and 14 in the Nation for Park Systems

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (May 23, 2025) – The City of St. Petersburg and its Parks
and Recreation Department have once again been nationally recognized for their commitment to parkland preservation and recreational access. In the newly released 2025 ParkScore index by The Trust for Public Land, St. Pete ranked No. 1 in Florida and No. 14 in the nation, a testament to the City’s
dedication to providing high quality, equitable green spaces for residents and visitors alike.

“This recognition reflects our long-standing commitment to building an inclusive and vibrant parks system that supports wellness, sustainability, and community,” said Mike Jefferis, Community Enrichment Administrator. “Our parks are more than just green spaces, they are vital community hubs that offer something for everyone, from outdoor fitness to family-friendly events to
places that provide a connection to nature.”

The annual ParkScore index assesses the 100 largest U.S. cities using criteria that include access, acreage, amenities, equity, and investment. St. Pete earned especially high marks in equity and investment, receiving a score of 78 out of 100 in each category. According to the report, 75% of city residents
live within a 10-minute walk of a park, reflecting the city’s success in creating accessible, community-centered public spaces.

St. Pete outperformed several cities renowned for outdoor living and
recreation, including Austin, TX; San Diego, CA; and Atlanta, GA.

The St. Petersburg Parks and Recreation Department takes a strategic placemaking approach to park development, designing parks and programs that promote community connection, environmental protection, and equitable access across all neighborhoods.
