Davenport, FL – A Polk County school bus was struck by a Lexus on U.S. Highway 27 at approximately 1:15 p.m. this afternoon.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the school bus, carrying 30 students and traveling northbound, was hit on the driver’s side by the Lexus, which was attempting to turn east onto Ronald Reagan Parkway. The Lexus became disabled and blocked the turn lane. The lane has since been cleared after the vehicle was towed. The bus was returning to Bella Citta Elementary School from a field trip.
All 30 students were evaluated for injuries. One student reported back pain and was transported by EMS to a local hospital.
The school bus was towed from the scene. Students were put on another bus. The driver of the Lexus was cited for failure to yield right of way.
