Polk County Mother Charged After Entering School Bus, Verbally Assaulting Student and Driver: PCSO

Haines City, FL – Polk County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 48-year-old Latanya Rowe on October 27, 2025, for disrupting a school function, trespassing on school grounds, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

The incident began that morning when Rowe boarded a Polk County Public Schools bus stopped to pick up students for Davenport High School. She cursed at a student regarding an altercation on Friday, October 24, 2025, between the student and her son and daughter, and issued threats while the student recorded the encounter. Rowe also cursed at the bus driver, accusing him of failing to address the prior incident. The driver ordered her off the bus; she refused until informed law enforcement was being contacted. The bus was delayed 50 minutes.

Deputies located Rowe at Davenport High School’s front office, where she continued cursing and yelling. She resisted arrest. Her daughter, nearby, ignored multiple orders to step back and stated she wanted to go to jail; the daughter was arrested for violating the Halo law and resisting arrest.

Investigation of the October 24 incident revealed Rowe’s son had bullied the victim for a week using racial slurs. After disembarking the bus that afternoon, the victim attempted to speak with the siblings; both punched the victim, who fought back until separated by another student. The victim’s parents declined to press charges and deferred to school handling.

Rowe faced charges of disrupting a school function (second-degree misdemeanor), trespassing on school grounds (second-degree misdemeanor), disorderly conduct (second-degree misdemeanor), and resisting arrest (first-degree misdemeanor). She posted $1,750 bond and was released.

Sheriff Grady Judd stated schools must remain safe for learning and that boarding a bus or entering school property to cause a disturbance is prohibited.
