Florida’s 10th Judicial Circuit Press Release:
Andres Sepulveda was recently found guilty by a Polk County jury of two counts of theft from a person 65 years or older of $10,000 or more. Between April 28th and May 1st, 2024, Sepulveda was able to scam an elderly victim for over $47,000. On April 28th, the victim was contacted by someone impersonating her son who stated he was arrested and she needed to provide $15,000 to bond him out of jail, and they would call her back with further instructions.
On April 29th, the victim received another phone call with instructions on how to send the money. The person identified himself as the victim’s son’s attorney. On April 30th the victim was contacted again and told an additional $32,500 would need to be delivered on May 1st. The victim’s family member was notified of the phone calls and contacted their local sheriff’s office.
A tracking device was placed in the package that was scheduled to be delivered on May 1st. The package was delivered by a Lyft driver to Sepulveda. Sepulveda entered his residence located in Frostproof and was seen exiting with the opened package, throwing the tracking device on the ground, and began stomping his foot on it. Law enforcement quickly detained Sepulveda.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on August 15th. State Attorney Brian Haas thanks SAO Investigator David Lopez, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the Casselberry Police Department, and the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office for their work on this case.
This case should serve as a reminder to all residents to be on the alert for phone scams circulating the community.
