Bartow, FL — Cheryl Williams, convicted in the murder of Polk County Deputy Blane Lane, was sentenced to life in prison without parole on Friday. The sentencing follows her guilty verdict on charges of second-degree murder, resisting an officer with violence, and three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
The incident occurred in October 2022 when deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant at Williams’ mobile home in Polk City. Williams was wanted for failing to appear in court on a possession of methamphetamine charge.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Lane was positioned tactically at the front of the home while two other deputies entered from the rear. As they cleared the rooms, Williams emerged from a back room brandishing a BB gun, prompting the deputies to open fire.
Tragically, a stray bullet fired by the deputies pierced the mobile home’s wall, striking and killing Deputy Lane. Williams did not address the court during her sentencing.
Nothing further at this time.
