These reductions align with broader national trends in violent crime decreases, as noted in reports from the Major Cities Chiefs Association. The progress is attributed to proactive policing strategies, targeted enforcement to remove illegal firearms, and community partnerships.

Under Chief Eric Smith, the department has emphasized visible patrols, crime prevention, and direct resident engagement. Quarterly community meetings and ongoing dialogue with neighborhood leaders have supported information sharing and cooperation.

“Our mission is simple: prevent crime, protect people, and keep our neighborhoods safe,” Chief Smith stated. “That means officers being visible, taking action, and building trust in the community. These numbers show that approach is working.”

Chief Smith added, “Crime doesn’t go down without effort on all sides. This progress reflects the hard work of our officers and the support of a community that cares about where it lives.”

The Orlando Police Department plans to continue these strategies, adapt to emerging trends, and collaborate with the community to maintain public safety.
