Orange County, FL – On August 23, 2025, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported home invasion at a residence on Sheringham Road near Silver Star Road in the Westwood neighborhood.
The victim, a man in his 40s, had discharged his firearm at four suspects attempting to enter the home. The suspects fled on foot prior to the deputies’ arrival at approximately 3 p.m.


Two deputies approached the front door. One knocked and announced their presence as law enforcement. The second deputy, positioned closest to the door, stepped back as the first deputy discharged his agency-issued firearm accidentally.
The round struck the victim, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a hospital and released the same day.

The involved deputy has been relieved of duty and reassigned to administrative tasks pending investigation.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an inquiry into the incident. The Sheriff’s Office released body camera footage of the event.
