LAKE COUNTY, FL – April 10, 2026 — Lake County’s countywide burn ban has expired and is no longer in effect as of Friday, April 10, 2026.
The burn ban, which was enacted on April 1, 2026, expired after the county’s Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) remained below the threshold of 500 for five consecutive days, in accordance with county guidelines.
Burn bans are implemented as a precautionary measure to prevent accidental fires and reduce the impact of drought conditions. While in effect, recreational fires and the burning of yard debris, land, and unauthorized debris piles not approved by the Florida Forest Service are prohibited.

Recent widespread rainfall from storms across Lake County significantly lowered the KBDI over the past five days, leading to the expiration of the burn ban per ordinance.
Residents are encouraged to follow outdoor burning safety guidelines, including monitoring fires closely, keeping them contained in a fire pit or other fire-resistant container, and maintaining access to a water source in case of emergency.
Additional information about burn bans is available on Lake County’s official website.
