The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Press Release :
CCSO MAKES ARREST IN OVERDOSE DEATH
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has arrested 52-year-old Dean Nelson of Crystal River on the charge of murder as a result of unlawful distribution of methamphetamine in connection with the death of his wife, 47-year-old Christine Nelson.
On January 27, deputies responded to a residence off North Rock Crusher Road, where they discovered Christine Nelson was deceased. Through further investigation, detectives determined Christine’s death was linked to methamphetamine that had been provided to her by her husband, Dean Nelson.
Probable cause was gained and presented to the Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office. This investigation was further solidified through the Fifth District Medical Examiner’s Office who reported that Christine Nelson’s cause of death was from acute methamphetamine toxicity.
Nelson was taken into custody without incident on March 10 and is being held without bond at the Citrus County Detention Facility.
CCSO is working closely with the State Attorney’s Office of the 5th Judicial Circuit to ensure a fair and just prosecution. As this remains an active case, no further details will be released at this time.
