HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. — A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputy was arrested on charges of Driving Under the Influence following a traffic stop in Citrus Park on May 30, 2026.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, deputies conducted a traffic stop at approximately 11:34 p.m. near Gunn Highway and Normandie Road. During the stop, deputies observed signs of impairment from the driver, identified as 32-year-old Richard Michael Garcia.
Garcia refused to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Exercises and declined to provide a breath sample.
Garcia was arrested and charged with:
- Driving Under the Influence
- Refusal to Submit to Testing
Garcia has been employed by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office since November 2020 and is assigned to the District I Street Crimes Unit.
He has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation.
