Fourth Suspect Arrested in Illegal Gambling Case Involving Suspended Osceola Sheriff

Sheldon Wetherholt was booked into Lake County Jail overnight, becoming the fourth individual charged in connection with an illegal gambling operation that has also implicated suspended Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez. Wetherholt faces accusations of operating a gambling house, according to court documents.

Lopez, who remains in custody at Lake County Jail on a $1 million bond, was scheduled for a bond hearing Tuesday afternoon but the hearing was canceled for undisclosed reasons. It remains unclear if the hearing will be rescheduled. Lopez’s attorney is seeking to lower the bond amount and may request permission for Lopez to wear an ankle monitor if released.

The case, centered around an illegal gambling operation allegedly generating over $21 million, continues to unfold as authorities pursue additional suspects. Lopez faces charges of racketeering and conspiracy to commit racketeering.
