Florida Woman Exits Vehicle to Check on Injured Opossum, Fatally Struck: FHP

Spring Hill, FL – On August 10, 2025, at approximately 9:54 PM, a fatal collision occurred on Hexam Road east of Eskimo Curlew Road in Spring Hill.

A 31-year-old Spring Hill man driving a Toyota Camry stopped to check on an injured opossum. A 27-year-old Spring Hill woman, the passenger and wife of the driver, exited the vehicle to attend to the animal. She was struck by a Chrysler 300 driven by a 19-year-old Weeki Wachee man.

The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The roadway was closed for several hours. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. Nothing further at this time.
