Father with Dementia Shoots Son at Kissimmee Home

KISSIMMEE, FL – Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred Friday, April 3, at a residence in Kissimmee.

Deputies responded at approximately 12:42 p.m. to 103 Westmoreland Circle following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found an adult male victim, in his 50s, who had been shot. The victim was airlifted to a hospital and underwent surgery.

An 85-year-old man, identified as the victim’s father, was located at the residence and taken into custody without incident. The suspect has been diagnosed with dementia and is currently being interviewed by detectives. Authorities stated that a determination will be made regarding whether he will be formally arrested or placed under the Baker Act.

Both father and son resided at the home. Deputies noted that they had responded to the residence three times in the past 10 days for verbal altercations between the two.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials said additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
