Fatal Hit-and-Run on Radio Road Involving 75-Year-Old Pedestrian

On August 18, 2025, at approximately 9:10 PM, a fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Radio Road and Patrick Drive in Lake County, Florida. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) responded to the incident, with Trooper Osenkarski and Corporal Curado assigned as the crash and homicide investigators, respectively.

The incident involved a 2012 Toyota Tacoma, driven by Kevin Edward Custer, a 37-year-old male from Leesburg, Florida, traveling northbound on Radio Road. A 75-year-old male pedestrian, also from Leesburg, was walking northbound on the same road when the vehicle collided with him.

The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was transported to UF Health in Leesburg, where he was pronounced deceased. The next of kin was notified.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene post-collision but was later returned to the location by a family member. FHP took custody of the vehicle for processing and arrested Custer on charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death and DUI manslaughter. He was booked into the Lake County Jail.

The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt (status of child restraint unknown), reported no injuries. The pedestrian was not wearing a helmet, which was noted as not applicable. The crash remains an active criminal investigation by FHP.
