The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation on Scenic View Street in Lakeland, related to a structure fire.
At approximately 10:07 a.m. Sunday, February 1, 2026, the PCSO ECC received a 911 call regarding a single-wide mobile home engulfed in flames. Despite neighbors’ attempts, the resident inside, an elderly female, was
unable to be accessed or removed from the trailer.
Polk County Fire Rescue extinguished the fire, and her body was located in the master bedroom. The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire,
which preliminarily appears to be related to improper disposal of cigarettes.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the death investigation, which is pending completion of an autopsy during normal business hours in the coming
week.
