January 30, 2026 – Former CNN anchor Don Lemon was arrested late Thursday by federal agents in Los Angeles.
His attorney, Abbe Lowell, called it an “unprecedented attack on the First Amendment,” stating that Lemon’s coverage of a January 18 anti-ICE church protest in St. Paul, Minnesota, is protected journalism.
Charges reportedly include conspiracy to deprive others of civil rights and violations of the FACE Act for obstructing a house of worship. A magistrate judge had previously rejected initial charges.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi confirmed the arrest, describing it as part of a “coordinated attack” on the church.
Lemon, who has been independent since leaving CNN in 2023, is expected in court soon.
The case has triggered intense debate over press freedom versus limits on protests. We will continue to update as more information becomes available.
