Bartow Student Wins Congressional App Challenge

IB Bartow student Tej Desai is among the winners of this year’s Congressional App Challenge!

Desai created ReliefNet, a disaster response app that connects people with nearby first responders and relief organizations during natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods and wildfires.

He said the app is designed to improve communication and coordination by authorities in the wake of natural disasters, so there’s less disparity in the amount of time it takes citizens to receive help.

Congressman Scott Franklin visited IB Bartow this week to officially recognize Desai as the Congressional App Challenge winner for Florida’s 18th District.

The App Challenge is an official bipartisan initiative of the U.S. House of Representatives that encourages middle and high school students to learn to code, explore computer science, and build practical technology solutions for their communities.

A record 13,830 students across 394 Congress districts participated in this year’s challenge.
