AUBURNDALE, FL — A home in Auburndale was struck by lightning Monday night, sparking an attic fire that left the residence heavily damaged.
Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 8:41 p.m. to the home on Summerlake Drive, located in a relatively new neighborhood in Auburndale. When units arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof. Auburndale Fire Department and Polk County Fire Rescue crews responded and extinguished the fire.
Firefighters worked through rainy conditions to bring the fire under control. TECO also responded to disconnect electrical service to the home.
According to the City of Auburndale, the structure sustained heavy damage. No residents or firefighters were injured. Nothing further.
