Lakeland, Fla. — Starting Monday, July 7, 2025, or as soon as weather permits, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will implement a significant road closure on northbound Waring Road as part of the State Road 572 (Drane Field Road) Resurfacing and Roundabout Project.

The closure will affect the stretch from the SR 572/Drane Field Road intersection to Polk Parkway exit 4 and is expected to remain in place until late December 2025. Motorists should also anticipate intermittent lane closures throughout the project duration, which is set to continue through late 2025, weather permitting.
To navigate around the closure, drivers are advised to use Polk Parkway exit 3 (Airport Road) to access Drane Field Road in both eastbound and westbound directions. The FDOT’s Maintenance of Traffic (M.O.T.) plan aims to minimize disruptions while ensuring safety during construction.
The project includes key improvements such as resurfacing and widening lanes on SR 572, along with the construction of a new roundabout at Waring Road. This week, construction crews will focus on utilities, drainage systems, and roadway grading.
