Fatal Motorcycle Crash in St. Petersburg Claims Life of 19-Year-Old

St. Petersburg, FL – A tragic collision early Saturday morning, June 14, 2025, resulted in the death of a 19-year-old motorcyclist at the intersection of Park St. N and 28th Ave. N, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., Mason Derks was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle northbound on Park St. N when a Mazda SUV, traveling westbound on 28th Ave. N, turned southbound onto Park St. N, crossing the motorcycle’s path. The resulting crash caused severe injuries to Derks, who was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police have notified Derks’ next of kin, and the community is mourning the loss of the young rider. The driver of the Mazda SUV remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation, authorities said. No charges have been announced at this time, pending further investigation.

The intersection was temporarily closed for several hours as police conducted a scene investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the crash to contact the St. Petersburg Police Department.
