Lake Wales Approves Traffic Camera Contract with Altumint
In a story first reported by Gary White from The Ledger, the Lake Wales City Commission voted 4-0 on May 6, 2025, to approve a five-year contract with Altumint, a Maryland-based company, to operate fixed traffic and school zone cameras. The decision follows a November resolution to install cameras to detect red light violations and speeding in school zones.

After issuing a request for proposals in March, a city committee selected Altumint. The contract stipulates a $3,499 monthly rental fee per red light camera, while the city is still deciding between the same fee or $20 per paid citation for speed cameras. Altumint will conduct preliminary reviews of camera footage, filtering out low quality images, while the Lake Wales Police Department will handle final reviews and issue citations. The company will mail citations and delinquent notices.

The red-light cameras are expected to begin operating within four months, pending permitting and construction, according to city spokesperson Eric Marshall. Nothing further at this time.
