MOUNT DORA, FL — A fatal stabbing that left a retired Mount Dora couple dead has resulted in life in prison for 53-year-old Vickie Lynn Williams.
A Lake County jury recommended a life sentence for Williams following her conviction on two counts of first-degree murder in the December 2022 stabbing deaths of 83-year-old Darryl Getman and his wife, 80-year-old Sharon Getman. Judge Cary F. Rada sentenced Williams to life in the Florida Department of Corrections.
The Getmans were found stabbed to death inside their home at the Lakeside at Waterman Village retirement community in Mount Dora on Dec. 31, 2022.
Investigators identified Williams as a suspect following a coordinated investigation involving the Mount Dora Police Department, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Prosecutors said forensic evidence connected Williams to the crime scene.
Following the murders, Williams fled the area in the couple’s green Kia Soul and took jewelry and paintings belonging to them, prosecutors said. She was arrested in Savannah, Georgia, on Jan. 2, 2023.
During the trial, prosecutors presented physical and forensic evidence, surveillance footage and property belonging to the Getmans that was recovered in Williams’ possession.
The jury deliberated for roughly 30 minutes before finding Williams guilty on both counts of first-degree murder.
“Darryl and Sharon Getman lost their lives to an act of unimaginable violence,” State Attorney Bill Gladson said. “Today, the jury made clear that their lives mattered, accountability matters, and justice does not forget.”
