SUMTERVILLE, FL — A 47-year-old Lakeland man was killed Thursday night after his motorized scooter was struck by an SUV on U.S. 301, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash occurred at approximately 10:55 p.m. on Aug. 20 at the intersection of U.S. 301 and County Road 470.
FHP said an 18-year-old Port Charlotte man was driving a Hyundai SUV southbound on U.S. 301. At the same time, the Lakeland man was operating a motorized scooter southbound and was stopped at the intersection of CR 470. Troopers said the SUV failed to stop and collided with the scooter.
The 47-year-old man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The identities of those involved have not been released.
