UMATILLA, FL — A 49-year-old Umatilla man was killed Monday evening in a two-vehicle crash on County Road 439 in Lake County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 5:42 p.m. on Aug. 17 near Freeman Drive. According to FHP, the Umatilla man was driving a 2020 Ford Escape northbound on County Road 439 when he failed to maintain his lane and entered the path of a southbound 2008 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 22-year-old Lake Mary man.
The front left side of the Ford collided with the front left side of the Chevrolet. The impact caused both vehicles to overturn. The 49-year-old driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 22-year-old pickup truck driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, according to FHP. The crash remains under investigation.
