WINTER HAVEN, FL — A driver was killed Thursday morning after a Chevy Trax collided with a semi-truck at the intersection of Cypress Gardens Boulevard and Lazy Lane, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 5:13 a.m. on July 16, 2026. Investigators said the Chevy Trax was traveling westbound on Cypress Gardens Boulevard with its headlights on when a semi-truck exited the 7-Eleven parking lot on Lazy Lane. The semi entered the westbound lanes while attempting to cross the median and continue eastbound, pulling into the path of the oncoming Chevy.
The Chevy Trax became lodged underneath the semi-truck, trapping the driver. First responders extricated the driver, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver’s identity has not yet been released pending next-of-kin notification.
The semi-truck driver was not injured and was cleared at the scene. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Investigations Unit is investigating the crash. Cypress Gardens Boulevard remained closed in both directions for approximately three hours while deputies processed the scene.
