BARTOW, FL — Drivers traveling between Bartow and Lake Wales should prepare for significant delays as State Road 60 is scheduled to close for approximately two weeks beginning Sunday, July 26, for a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and CSX Transportation railroad crossing improvement project.

The full closure will occur at the railroad crossing located west of the intersection of State Road 60 and West Lake Wales Road South. During the closure, crews will perform railroad crossing improvements, track upgrades, structural repaving, and install high-visibility safety striping designed to improve safety and long-term reliability.

Passenger vehicles and school buses will be detoured using Old Bartow Road and Old Lake Wales Road. Westbound traffic from Lake Wales will travel north on Old Bartow Road, continue west on Old Lake Wales Road at the roundabout, and reconnect with S.R. 60. Eastbound traffic from Bartow will follow the reverse route.
Commercial trucks and other large vehicles will be required to use a 31-mile regional detour. Westbound truck traffic will travel south on U.S. 27, west on U.S. 98, north on U.S. 17, and then reconnect with S.R. 60. Eastbound trucks will follow the reverse route using U.S. 17, U.S. 98, and U.S. 27.
Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time, follow posted detour signs, and use caution while traveling through the area during the construction period.
