AUBURNDALE, FL (July 13, 2026) — The 10th Judicial Circuit Officer-Involved Deadly Incident Task Force is investigating a deputy-involved shooting that occurred Monday in Auburndale after a domestic violence suspect allegedly rammed a Polk County Sheriff’s Office sergeant’s patrol vehicle with a large International truck.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was fleeing the scene of a domestic violence incident when he drove the truck head-on into the responding sergeant’s patrol vehicle on Fowler Avenue in the Sun Acres neighborhood. The collision prompted the sergeant to fire at the suspect.

Authorities said one round grazed the suspect’s ear. Despite being struck, the suspect fled the scene on foot before being apprehended a short distance away by other deputies. No deputies were injured during the incident.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital and is expected to be treated and released. The investigation into the deputy-involved shooting is being conducted by the 10th Judicial Circuit Officer-Involved Deadly Incident Task Force.
