The City of Kissimmee officially broke ground on March 18, 2026, on a $13 million project to construct a new Fire Station 2 and renovate Mill Run Park.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place at the project site located at 1465 Mill Slough Road. City leaders, firefighters, and project partners participated in the event.
The new Fire Station 2 will replace the existing Fire Station 12 on Denn John Lane, which was built in 1980. The replacement addresses the need to meet modern operational, safety, and emergency response standards.

The new 14,235-square-foot facility will be a three-bay fire station featuring:
- 24-hour fire suppression and emergency medical services (EMS) coverage
- Three drive-through apparatus bays
- Firefighter living quarters and operational workspaces for 24-hour staffing
- Resilient structural systems and emergency power systems to maintain operations during severe weather
The station will follow the City’s prototype fire station design to standardize construction, promote long-term efficiency, and ensure responsible use of public resources.
Fire Chief Jim Walls stated that the project represents an important investment in community safety and preparedness, providing firefighters with modern facilities and equipment for efficient response and operational readiness.
The project is being constructed in partnership with CORE Construction. Russell Garrison, Project Executive of CORE Construction Florida, noted that the facility is built to high durability and resilience standards to serve firefighters and residents reliably for decades.

The project also includes renovations to Mill Run Park, a neighborhood park. Upon completion, the park will feature new sidewalks, updated playground equipment, additional picnic tables, and a new restroom facility.
During construction, Mill Run Park will be temporarily closed and will reopen once improvements are finished.
Mayor Jackie Espinosa highlighted that the initiative underscores the City’s commitment to public safety and quality of life, strengthening emergency response while enhancing a neighborhood park used by families.
Construction began in March 2026, with completion expected in Fall 2027. Once Fire Station 2 is operational, the current Fire Station 12 building will be repurposed as an operations center for the City’s Parks and Recreation Department.
